Obviously, Russia is in need of a major overhaul if it is to significantly and positively address its alcohol abuse and alcoholism problems. Something tells me that providing the Russian people with educational information about the short-term and the long-term negative consequences of excessive drinking, especially when it involves non-beverage alcohols, is not going to make a major impact. In Russia, and perhaps in other industrialized nations, an economic overhaul is desperately needed.
If many Russian men who fall on hard times start drinking non-beverage alcohols because they are cheaper and have a high alcohol content, then major economic reform is in order. Although economic restructuring is important, so is addressing alcohol abuse and alcoholism from a cultural standpoint. This is where the Russian government needs to sponsor educational efforts aimed at teaching their people how to become masters at coping with life and how to become expert decision makers so that they can start making more productive and healthier decisions in their everyday lives and learn how to avoid alcohol abuse issues before they become out-of-control problems such as alcoholism.
